Semrush API competitors: which seat jobs can move

Cancelling a seat is a blunt move. Walk the tree below one job at a time, and only the jobs that survive every question go to the meter.

How to use the tree

Take one task at a time. Write it on a card, and answer the questions in order.

Teams tend to argue about tools in general, which goes nowhere. Arguing about a single recurring task, such as the monthly referring-domain export for a retail client, ends in a number within ten minutes.

Do this with the person who runs the exports in the room. They know which jobs are real.

The tree, in order

01

Does the task need keywords, positions or search volume?

If yes, stop. It stays in Semrush or Ahrefs. We do not sell keyword data, and no honest comparison pretends otherwise.

02

Does it need data fresher than about a month?

If yes, stop again. Our index refreshes roughly monthly, so launch-week monitoring belongs in a daily-fresh suite or in Google Search Console.

03

Is the question about links, anchors or domain strength?

If yes, continue. Referring domains, backlinks, anchors, top pages and DR are exactly what the API returns.

04

Does a person click it, or does a machine call it?

A person exploring with filters is better served by a UI. A script, sheet or automation tool is better served by a call at 1 to 3 credits.

05

Does it run more than once a month?

If so, the meter wins by more each time. One call per run, any number of rows up to 1,000, billed once.

06

Can you name the owner of the output?

A job without an owner is a job to delete, not to migrate. Drop it and save the credits too.

Five seat jobs, sorted by the tree

Sorting is our judgement. Credit costs come from the published action list.

An example, clearly hypothetical

A five-person agency lists twelve recurring jobs. Seven are link pulls run by one analyst. They move, the seat count drops by two, and the other five jobs keep the suite. Your split will differ; the method is the point.

What to do after the tree

Keep a running table of moved jobs. It becomes the proof for finance.

Each row should hold the job, the owner, the credits per run and the run date, plus the seat or tool it used to live in. After one quarter you will know how many seats were really needed and which exports nobody read. Do not cancel in the same week you move a job, since a month of parallel running catches the surprises that a tree cannot.

Google Search Console remains the free source for your own queries and clicks, so no job that needs those belongs in a paid link API in the first place.

Two follow-ups teams ask

Will reports look different afterwards? Yes. Our DR is our own log-scale metric, round(100 times log(ref_domains+1) divided by log(2 times 10^7)), so it will not equal any other vendor's number. Pick one metric per report and hold it fixed across months, and read the swap mistakes first.

What if you want one tool and one login? Then stay in the suite and accept the price. The meter pays only when volume is scripted, and a team where nobody writes a formula may lose more in hours than it saves in dollars. Check the cost table before deciding.
